Why it’s interesting
HN.watch turns the Hacker News front page into a row of short, on-demand videos. It preserves each story’s title, score, discussion, and article link, but clicking the title opens an AI explainer. Scrimba’s first-party documentation says the explainer uses only that article and its Hacker News discussion rather than a wider web search. When a thread has at least ten comments, the ending summarizes areas of agreement, disagreement, and the strongest objection. That bounded source set makes this a checkable AI-reading experiment, not a substitute for the source.
How to try it
Open the site, choose a story whose context you already know, and click its title or video link. In a signed-out check, the front page worked and opened the MicroLLM Lab explainer page with source, generation time, article, and discussion links. Pressing Play entered Scrimba Explain’s generation and playback flow. Watching requires no account. The site says it uses no cookies or tracking scripts, only anonymous daily aggregates. Generation may take time and can miss or misread details, so verify important claims against the article.
Requirements and sources
Scrimba co-founder Per Harald Borgen launched the experience on September 28, 2026. The official documentation says an unreadable article is replaced by discussion-only coverage with a disclosure, while insufficient material produces no explainer. Viewing is free and signed-out, but these are AI-generated interpretations, not author-reviewed videos. The cover remotely references the project site’s 1200×630 official Open Graph image for identification only; it is not rehosted and no redistribution permission is claimed.
